RE: Yet another tow vehicle tire thread (Suburban 2500)

I'm almost never off-road, so I went with an all-season tire for our 2500 Burb/Yukon. General Grabber HTS 245/75R16E. I got them for a good price, they have a good treadwear warranty, and a friend is happy with them on his 2wd pickup.
Despite my BIL urging me to upsize, I stuck with the 245's on the stock 6.5" rim due to recommendations on this forum and from my local tire guy.

RE: LCD's and cold temperatures

is there any real need to get an RV/Marine LCD TV which is supposed to be for the added bumps/jarring/motion of a vehicle vs the standard household LCD TV?
I didn't know there was such a thing! My new Jayco came with what looks like a standard RCA unit.

RE: ADCO Covers

properly installed, padded and secured they will last a long time.
I am waiting for my ADCO cover from CW. I have heard that it is good to pad any sharp objects (like roof top antennas). Are there any other special tips that may not be in the ADCO instructions? I think I saw one post where someone said to secure the bottom tightly, but someone else suggested leaving the bottom loose to avoid the wind ripping it.

RE: Electric Tongue Jack for Jayco

Capvin, not a dumb question as I thought the same thing before I actually took delivery of our new unit. With nearly 1200 lbs on the tongue, cranking the manual jack a few times up and down everytime you need to hitch/unhitch the trailer and get the WD bars snapped up or off gets tiresome really quick.
For a couple of hundred dollars, these electric jacks, based on what I have read and seen, make the RV experience just that much more enjoyable. A couple hundred dollars over the lifetime of owning the trailer is really not a whole lot to spend - at least in my opinion.

RE: TT length and tire size for covers? Jayco 314BHDS

Browns,
When you open the box, make sure the number you ordered is the number that is actually IN the box.........
Thanks for the tip. I logged on to my CW account, and it said the cover is backordered!

RE: Just got a new Outback 310 BHS

Congrats and good luck with it! Our very first TT is about 34' (see signature) and we have had no problems with the length. The extra room is helpful with the 4 of us plus dogs!

RE: Tire Load Index on General Tires...

General Tire makes a highly rated Grabber HTS that comes in a P245/75
I just bought the General Grabber HTS for my 2500 Yukon XL. They are stock size 245/75R16 Load Range E. The type of tire really depends on your terrain. Mine is rarely off-road, so I went for an all season tire instead of an all terrain tire for better gas mileage and longer tread life. Have only had them a week, so no real evaluation yet! A friend has had them on his 2wd 1/2 ton p/u, and he is happy with them.

RE: TT length and tire size for covers? Jayco 314BHDS

Thank you everyone.
I ordered the one for this size:
#22846
31’7” - 34’
408” L x 100” W x 102” H
This is from the ADCO website FAQ:
How do I measure my coach for an RV cover?
Measure RV from end to end (including bumpers, spare tire and ladder) to determine RV Cover needed for proper fit. Do not rely on manufacturer’s specifications. Covers should fit loose.
I hope the one I ordered isn't too big. I went with the tandem tire covers.

RE: Have to replace tongue jack

It certainly can't hurt to ask!
I would also call them, particularly if you do not get a positive response via e-mail. (It may be easier for them to say "no" in an e-mail.)
Sometimes I will call a company a few times, because it depends who you talk to whether or not they will feel like helping you.
I bought an Atwood 3500# last Spring and it has worked well.

RE: Where to buy ADCO cover?

I have seen several threads where people have had pretty good success with the ADCO Tyvek covers, so I am going to try it. I just ordered from CW, since they ended up being cheapest and I can return it to the store if I need to. $50 off cover, free shipping on cover, buy one get one 50% off tyre guard, and $5 internet coupon. So I paid $383 for cover and two tandem tyre guards including shipping, tax, etc.

TT length and tire size for covers? Jayco 314BHDS

I am ordering an ADCO cover and tire guards for our 2008 Jayco 314BHDS. Jayco says the TT is 33'11", so I am assuming that the cover for up to 34' will fit.
What size are the tires so that I can check what size tire guards that I need? Also, are the tandem covers better, or single covers for each tire? It looks like the tandem cover and individual cover work out to about the same price.
The TT is stored at my BIL's, so I don't have it here to measure.

RE: Need Help - 2008 Jayco Eagle 314BHDS low point drain

The drains on our 314BHDS are at the back drivers side corner (on the opposite side of the TT from the water heater). Two drain tubes sticking out from the under belly with drain valves that you lift up on the T-handle. The handles are a tad small though. Be sure to open a faucet inside to to help vent the lines.
That is exactly where mine are on my 2008. I took out the drain on the HW heater, opened all of my faucets, and opened those 2 low point drains...they were draining for several minutes! Since it gets quite cold here, I think I will still put antifreeze in all of the lines to be safe.
Welcome!

RE: TT Cover suggestions

I just bought a Calmark Sunbrella Cover. They were less expensive for the same material than ADCO and had a better warranty. Appears to be very well made and they will send you samples of their material before you buy.
Wow! I have also been looking for a cover. I can get the higher priced ADCO cover (Tyvek) with tire guards for under $400. The Calmark cover was close to $1000!

RE: Freezing temps before winterizing?

Hi,
Here are a couple of tips until you can take time to really winterize the RV, at least it should prevent damage, and take less than 5 minutes.
Thank you very much. What else would need to be done beyond your steps? Anything else mechanical/plumbing? Or is the remaining work just emptying food, covering RV, etc.?

Freezing temps before winterizing?

I am playing catch-up with all the things that I have had to do lately, and have not winterized the TT yet. It will be my first time doing it. The weatherman here in NJ says it may be 25-30F at night and 40-45F during the daytime this week. Am I risking freezing and damging anything, or would the freezing temps need to last longer? If I am risking it, I'll make time to get it done at night after work. Otherwise, maybe I'll wait til the weekend.

RE: Where to buy ADCO cover?

You should really consider a Calmark Cover- you will be replacing your ADCO cover next year or the year after. Buy quality the first time
I got an e-mail price from Calmark. Their product looks very good, but the cover will cost $952 plus shipping! I may be sorry, but I can't see spending $1000 on a cover that is guaranteed for 6 yrs. I think I will try my luck spending less than $400 for a cover and tire covers that are guaranteed for 2 years. Several people on the forum say they have gotten more than 2 years out of the ADCO covers.

RE: Where to buy ADCO cover?

Those prices sound high, though we have bought both our ADCO covers from CW during a sale period. Are you looking at the custom covers, or the regular ones? We have non-custom ADCO covers and have been pleased so far with their fit. They come in 2' increments, I believe; you'd buy the next larger size than your trailer's box length (not including the length of the hitch). I know we paid less than $300 for ours, including shipping.
Thanks. The prices were for the "contoured fit" not the "custom fit", and they included the tire covers. I included the price of the tire covers in my comparison, since you get them free with purchase of a cover from some of the suppliers.

RE: Enclosed Underbelly?

Ours just happened to come with it, we were not specifically looking for it. We do not camp in freezing temps.
I know the aerodynamics/fuel economy debate has gone back and forth with enclosed underbellies, but I don't think it makes much difference.
I think it does help keep mud and dirt off of the framing and flooring. Ours is pretty easy to squirt off with the hose. Without it, I would imagine that dirt, etc. can get lodged more easily up in the frame members, etc.

RE: Where to buy ADCO cover?

Yes, they are sold at CW. As I said in the OP, they were on sale, and now they are on another sale at CW, but I was wondering if they were cheaper anywhere else. The 34' Tyvek cover and 4 tire guards was about $430 at CW. SO far, I found them for about $390 at RV Wholesalers and RV Supply Warehouse.

Where to buy ADCO cover?

I know there are different opinions on whether or not to cover, but I think I have decided to cover our 2008 Jayco TT. I really want to preserve the finish.
Does anyone know who has the best price on ADCO covers? I will probably go with the ADCO TYVEK TT cover and ADCO tire covers. I missed the CW lowest price sale, and I see they are now $50 off with free shipping. But I know CW doesn't always have the best prices.
Also, does anyone know the physical length of my TT and the diameter of my tires? I don't have the TT at home to measure them.
